Wii Be Healin’

October 21st, 2007

One of the latest crazes to hit the Wii world is rehab using the Wii console, known as Wii-hab. Wii-hab is an innovative way to use Wii interactivity to help those in physical therapy. Latest news reports like the one from Newsday suggest that although this isn’t a substitute for normal therapy it definitely has a benefit. Patients are showing increase range of mobility and physical well being.

Personally I think this is a great way to use the Wii. Anyone who has played any of the Wii Sports games for a couple hours knows what a work out it could be. The first time I played Wii tennis I was sore for two days. This is another great example of how the Wii reaches a huge audience of people, which will guarantee that the Wii will continue selling for a long time.

  2. Prank Videos

better go buy an exercise machine instead of messing around with a wii mote. lol

  3. stevros

boozah! Nintendo Wii is terrible! They have games only for small childs. PS3 will in the end WIN

  4. Triox

@stevros - never really played on one have you? Most of the games are not “kids” games, but casual games, there is a big difference. And I suppose they are so terrible because shock horror, they are the biggest selling console of the 7th generation… And there is still a shortage of them… wow, they must be really really bad…

This is a great use for the Wii, as the article pointed out, it is decieving how much movement you get into a play session on one of these - even on the more simple WiiSports. If you have a crippled leg(s) or back and are confined to bed, playing on this can certainly keep your heart rate up and your arms/shoulders moving.

The Wii is pretty cool, but if anyone is sore from playing Wii Sports, they might need to put down the Wii-mote for a while and do some real physical activity. Ride a bike, go for a swim. Even go for a walk.

  6. okay

omg someone insulted my video game console brb while i write a paragraph long retort

  7. stevros

    @Triox
Playing these pathetically boring casual games when you are crippled does not somehow make them fun

  8. stevros

Triox. Yes but when you are crippled in my country they put you make food for others. And if you in hospital and play much Wii it is dangerous when the high toxins in Wiimote hand control material will go into blood and organs. They say where I come from that “a excellent coaster Nintendo Wii. Put youre hot coffe on it”

  9. doesn't matter

Sales matter and definitely show a promising library in the future, for both.
Comparing the Wii to a PS3 or 360 is like comparing tennis to
soccer. They are both entirely different.

The Wii is very innovative and will be a big success in games requiring such interaction and simplicity. Group games and the family genre etc. To see the Wii being used in circumstances such as this is a good thing to see. I haven’t seen my entire family including “seniors” get excited about playing a video game since the Atari when I was a “small child”.

If you want to call the Wii a kids game then you can call the PS3 a
wanna be PC. While the PS3 is an impressive piece of hardware, if you wish to enjoy FPS the way it should be get a PC.

High toxins?? Unless you are sucking on the batteries then think you really need to check out what the controllers are made from, or to make sure you are playing a Wii and not a knock-off Vii… Controllers are made from a polycarbonate (if memory serves right) which are in use from everything from TV remote controls to keyboards so no, toxic materials are not present in the Wiimote at dangerous/illeagal levels.

Have you tried games like Zelda, Metroid, Super Paper Mario, Trauma Centre etc etc? Yes, games like Sports and Play are simple, but they are aimed at one end of the audience. To write off an entire system based on one set of games is both ignorant and downright dangerous. What has the PS3 got that is so great?

And yes, I have a PS3, and yes, I have about 8 games for it…

Guess what though, most of mine are adventure/RPG’s and not the generic re-hashes/movie tie in junk that you usually get.

Please, see what else is on the machine before basing all your ideas off of the Nintendo adverts…

And Fred, yeah, if after half an hour, then you may need a bit more help than the Wii can give, but if your sore after an 8 hour stint on Rayman, it is kinda acceptable.

    Triox

PS - Stevros, mind me asking what country you are from?

  11. In soviet russia

In soviet russia, wii eat you!

Perhaps his controllers are made in China

    @Triox, YHBT YHL HAND

  12. Mangor

In Soviet Russia, wii plays you!

  13. stevros

I was born in country of florida but I have now moved to City area of Miami. Where we come from your racist Wii jokes are not kindly taken!

  14. spoon

lmao i love the comment made by stevros “the ps3 in the end will win”.

yeah.. because we all love our ps3 systems that barely do anything and have fairly awful games. NOT… the ps3 is basically a computer with no games that are interesting. WOW another FPS called resistance! or WOW i played that that same game on my ps1..

come on.. the ps3 cannot possibly win with shitty games, being so damn expensive for just an “xbox360″ with a “blu-ray player”. seriously thats all ps3 is.

im not a nintendo, microsoft, or sony fanboy as i support all consoles and dont give a shit weather one looses the war or not. all consoles have a downside… but if i had to choose between consoles id choose the wii not because of the controller. but because of the way it automatically downloads updates even when the power is off, browse the web, and even play the couple gamecube games that actually made the gamecube seem fun.

but if youd prefer a huge black turd looking system like the ps3 then thats your choice.
